Emergencies at shows
Dear Jourdain,
If a horse colicked and you were at a show out of town and no one had any medicine for it, what would you do? This almost happened to me but my friend had some medicine for it.

Dear Morgan,
Colic is a term which applies to a disruption of the horse’s normal intestinal processes which means your horse is having a hard time going to the bathroom. So, if you are at a horse show, your horse is showing signs of colic, and there is no veterinarian available, you want to keep your horse from hurting itself. One way would be to put your horse in its trailer, keep it quiet and observe it closely until you can have it seen by a vet. Most of the time, the first thing a horse will do is go to the bathroom. There are different types of colic, and a horse’s digestive system is highly sensitive, so the best cure for colic is prevention. Manage your horse’s diet at all times with help from your vet. Bobbie, at larger shows would a vet be on site?
Love, Jourdain

my mini horse coliced and a good thing to do is have the lick some salt from your hand beacuse then they will want to drink water and walk them in a circle
What you want to do is make sure they’re MOVING. Even though they want to lay down, this will help the food move through their digestive tract. If your class starts soon you may as well take him out of it. At larger shows a vet would be on site because the show is not local and it would take longer for the vet to get there if an accident were to happen. Personally I think at least 3 vets should be at each show so 2 could stay with the horse and one could go get medics. Same thing with a stable. The 2 people could stay with the one that’s hurt and the other go get help.
gOOD IDEA.
