Question of the Month: No Horse

As you all know, PONY’s for both horse owners and horse dreamers alike, and we try very hard to make our books and gifts useful and fun for everyone. But just  the other day I was thinking about how our Question of the Month posts may be more popular among horse-owners … and we don’t want those of you without a horse to feel neglected! It may seem sometimes like you’re the only person in the world who doesn’t have a horse, but I promise you’re not. Really loving horses but having to do without isn’t always easy, and to top off not having a horse, all kinds of complicated feelings like jealousy can arise. This month we’re tackling the question of how to deal with this tough issue – and this one’s especially for you PONY members out there without a horse.

Dear PONY,

I have a friend who goes to ride horses at her uncle’s farm, but I don’t. I love horses but do not have one, even though I really wish I did. My friend just makes me feel bad. Now I don’t know what to do! Please tell me what to do!

From, Megan F.

Hi, it is really hard not having a horse and really wanting one. I REALLY want one but i find new ways to deal with it. I try ro make frinds with people who have horses. I now have a frind with three horses and she turned out to be my best, best friend. then i also play three sports; soccer, softball, and vollyball. What you do to deal with it is different for every person. just do something other than obsess about horses.

I know how you feel. My BFF has lessons ever week, but I can’t aford them. She is always telling me about how great it was and explaining things that she has learned. Sometimes she acts like she knows everything. But I know she is just so excited and I know I would be too. I try to not let it bother me and just think how happy it makes her and so I’m happy too. Maybe one day you and I will both be able to have our own horses. Until then, be glad that your friend gets to ride and will one day be able to help you when you start to learn. Good Luck!

I don’t have my own horse, but I’ve been taking riding lessons every week for the past year. I really want my own horse but I can’t get one. So I just focus on riding better.

If u feel like you can do more and you would like to do more just tell your teacher, or if there is a problem, change riding schools, that’s what I did.

you could always join a local 4-H club. thats what i did and you dont even have to own your own horse!

I used to have two horses, a sweet little black-and-white mini named Oreo and a big brown Tennesee Walking horse named Zoomer. My dad is allergic to horses and hay, but it was he who had to take care of them. They were supposed to be my mom’s horses, but, in my opinion, she is a nutcase who doesn’t know what she wants. Zoomer and Oreo were sold, Zoomer to a good family who already had a horse, and I don’t know where Oreo has gone. No-one has been able to explain to me why people give you something that they know you’ve been wanting for ages, then take it away again? It’s not fair!!!

AFTER YEARS OF BEGGING I FINALLY GOT MY OWN HORSE!!!

Do I know it. I have loved horses since I was 6-and been riding for around 5 years. I STILL do not have a horse, but something has come up about a nice Quarter Horse that the owner of Catch (the horse I ride) were considering buying. The only thing that made them choose Catch was that he used to be a therapeutic riding horse. (I am still glad they chose my darling Catchlet! I would die without him.)

It feels like there is no way I can really stay in touch with real live horses. :( I don’t take riding lessons because my mom says most are just too expensive, and there is no way she will ever get me a horse!! D: I don’t know very many people who have horses either!
PONY does help me from going non-horse crazy though!

Horses are EVERYTHING to me and I don’t think I’ll ever stop loving them!!!!
