Percheron

PercheronThe Percheron is so named because it originated in the Perche region of Normandy, France. Used by knights as war horses as early as AD 732, the breed’s early ancestors were more light-bodied than the modern Percheron. Later breeding for agricultural purposes made this horse more robust and sturdy. Arabian bloodlines contributed to the Percheron’s soundness, beauty and long stride. Jean le Blanc, the most famous Percheron stallion was foaled around 1830, and virtually all of today’s Percheron bloodlines trace to him. The breed remains popular for various types of driving and farm work.
