Welsh Mountain Pony

Hardy, enduring, and beloved by many, the Welsh Mountain Pony hails from the mountain country of Wales where it has lived for centuries. The Welsh Pony traces its heritage back to the days of the Romans and bears obvious signs of Arabian bloodlines. It is likely that some Thoroughbred and Hackney blood may also have been added. The Welsh Pony developed a distinct appearance and is known to pass on its best qualities when crossed with other breeds. The “Section A” is the smallest of the Welsh Ponies, and is a highly popular riding and driving pony.

Conformation:

Small, refined head with wide forehead, large eyes and neat, pointed ears. Profile may be slightly dished and muzzle is small. Good length of neck to proportions. Sloping shoulder. Well-defined withers. Deep girth. Muscular hindquarters. High-set tail. Elegant, well-made legs with strong, dense bone and good joints.

Temperament:

Intelligent, kind and willing. Ideal child’s pony.
